The Vikings compete in the Northern League. Founded in the fall of 2010, the league started with four original franchises. The Chicago Zephyrs, Rockford Foresters, Southland Vikings and Will County Crackerjacks were the founding members. Prior to the start of the 2012 season, the Midwest Collegiate League added four new franchises. The DeKalb County Liners and the DuPage County Hounds joined from the Prospect League and two more expansion teams were added. The Illinois Lincons of Will County and the Northwest Indiana Oilmen became the last two members of the MCL. The Bloomington Bobcats joined the league in 2016 and remained until 2019. The Crestwood Panthers joined the league in 2017. The MCL added the MCL Minutemen for the 2020 and 2021 campaigns and the Chicago American Giants were part of the league in 2021 and 2022. The Lake County Corn Dogs joined the NL prior to the 2022 summer, and the Elkhart County Miracle joined prior to the 2023 campaign. Play runs from late May through the playoffs in early August.
The NL now has six active teams in the league for the 2023 season: the Lake County Corn Dogs, Indiana Panthers, Elkhart County Miracle, Griffith Generals, Northwest Indiana Oilmen and Southland Vikings. The Northern League strives to provide and promote premier summer baseball to communities around the Midwest.
