The Southland Vikings took the last of seven lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against Michigan City Lakers, securing a 6-4 victory on Friday at Riverside Park.
The Southland Vikings pulled out the win thanks to a strong seventh inning. The Southland Vikings scored on an RBI single by Tyler Crussen off Dan Snyder, bringing home Aaron Fuller.
Robbie Nunn got the win in relief for the Southland Vikings. Nunn pitched four innings and allowed one run.
Snyder took the loss for Michigan City Lakers. He lasted just seven innings, walked five, struck out six, and allowed five runs.
The bottom of the first saw the Southland Vikings take an early lead, 1-0. Jalin McMillian singled to ignite the Southland Vikings' offense. A passed ball then moved McMillian from first to second. Nick Wheeler singled, scoring McMillian.
The Southland Vikings pushed one run across in each of the third, sixth and eighth. In the third, the Southland Vikings scored on an RBI single by Tyler Crussen, bringing home Austin Lorenz.
After pushing across one run in the top of the eighth, Michigan City Lakers faced just a 5-4 deficit. An RBI double by Chad Mateja triggered Michigan City Lakers' comeback. Finally, Nunn got RJ Zambrano to to end the threat.
After a quick strike from Michigan City Lakers, the Southland Vikings responded with one run in the eighth. The Southland Vikings scored on an RBI single by Fuller.
