Southland Vikings managed through a push by Joliet Generals in the fifth inning where Southland Vikings coughed up three runs, but Southland Vikings still won 11-5 on Thursday.
Jeremiah Lebron and Jack Lombardi all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Southland Vikings got things started in the first inning when Joe Curci singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Southland Vikings pulled away for good with three runs in the fifth inning.
In the fifth Will Smithey singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run and Kellen Quigley doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. Southland Vikings put up five runs in the eighth inning. Southland Vikings's big bats in the inning were led by a single by Frank Napleton and a double by Smithey. Gil Loza was the winning pitcher for Southland Vikings.
He surrendered zero runs on one hit over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one. Kyle Hallberg and Mike Rios entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Mike Santarelli took the loss for Joliet Generals. He went four and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out three.
Chase Pearce started the game for Southland Vikings. He allowed seven hits and five runs over five innings, striking out six Southland Vikings collected 15 hits on the day. Nick McAlister, Smithey, Jake Zylman, Justin Rios, Curci, and Napleton all collected multiple hits for Southland Vikings. McAlister went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Southland Vikings in hits.
Joliet Generals collected eight hits. Scott Wojcik and Lebron all had multiple hits for Joliet Generals. Joliet Generals didn't commit a single error in the field. Josh Nowak had the most chances in the field with seven.
