Hammond, Ind. - May 20, 2021 - As the season quickly approaches, the Southland Vikings announce their position players for the 2021 season. The Vikings will welcome 16 new position players to the team and three returnees from the 2020 season.
Mason Schaller, C, Morton College / McHenry, Ill. / Mundelein HS
Schaller enters his first year in the MCL after an impressive sophomore season with Morton College. He ended the year with a .311 batting average, .483 on-base percentage, ranked No. 20 in the NJCAA in walks with 39 and No. 21 in caught stealing with 5.
Mitch Hundely, C/1B, Morton College / Palatine, Ill. / Fremd HS
Another Morton catcher who’s entering his first year in the MCL had himself an impressive freshman 2021 season. He ended the year with two home runs, 16 RBI’s, .333 batting average and a .511 on-base percentage. Hundley ranks as the No. 18 catcher in Illinois and No. 141 overall.
Darrius Little, OF, Morton College / Chicago, Ill. / Simeon HS
The Chicago native comes to the Southland Vikings with plenty of speed. He totaled 17 stolen bases in 2021, drawing 20 walks in 38 games bringing his on-base percentage to .414. Little ranks as the No. 24 outfielder in Illinois and the No. 141 player in the state.
Cy Kerber, UTL, Morton College / Elgin, Ill. / Larkin HS
Kerber is coming off a strong sophomore season with Morton College. The C/INF was a stat sheet filler in 2021. In 45 games, he totaled a .351 batting average, .428 on-base percentage, 44 runs scored, 52 hits, 16 extra-base hits, including two home runs, 36 RBI’s, and 13 stolen bases. He comes in at 6-0 and 186 pounds.
Chris McDevitt, C/1B, Indiana State / Chicago, Ill. / St Rita HS
McDevitt returns to the Vikings after his 2020 season with them. The lefty bat had 9 RBIs, 15 walks, and a .342 on-base percentage last season with Southland. He brings in a key utility need as he can play first base or catcher for the Vikings.
Nick McAllister, OF, Erskine College / Homewood, Ill. / Homewood-Flossmoor HS
McAllister returns to the Vikings for his third season with the team. He finished his 2020 season with the Vikings with great numbers, totaling 19 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, .321 batting average and .411 on-base percentage. In his 2021 season with Erskine, he finished the year with a .364 batting average and 1.000 stolen base percentage.
Tommy Carlson, INF, Moraine Valley / Peotone, Ill. / Peotone HS
Carlson enters his first year with the Vikings after playing his freshman season at Moraine Valley. He totaled seven hits in 15 games, as well as four RBIs. He ended the year with a .306 on-base percentage.
Alex Gasbarro, INF, Purdue Northwest / New Lenox, Ill. / St. Laurence HS
Gasbarro finished his freshman season at PNW with great numbers and won’t be going far, as hishome field from the college season will also be his home field this summer. He played in 13 games while recording nine hits, five walks, and .333 on-base percentage. His fielding was impressive with 14 putouts and two double plays turned.
Ethan Imlach, INF, Purdue Northwest / Mokena, Ill. / Mount Carmel HS
Another PNW player for the Vikings, Imlach comes in as the No. 29 shortstop in Illinois and No. 155 player. He only committed two errors in his Freshman season, along with an impressive 28 putouts. Imlach comes in at 5-11, 175 pounds.
Logan Anderson, INF, South Suburban / Frankfort, Ill. / Providence Catholic
The MCL veteran returns for his third year with the Vikings. Anderson brings his big bat from the 2020 season. He recorded a hit in 14 of 17 games from July 16 to August 13, recorded three RBIs in two games, with a season total of 13 RBIs, and an impressive .383 on-base percentage.
Ryan Adasiak, OF, St. Xavier / Oak Lawn, Ill. / Marist HS
The two-way player comes for his first experience of the MCL. Adasiak has shown to pitch and play the outfield. In his 2021 season with the Cougars, he totaled four appearances while striking out five and giving up zero runs.
Bryant Diel, OF, Northwestern Ohio / South Elgin, Ill. / South Elgin HS
Diel returns to the MCL for his third year but first with the Southland Vikings. In his 2020 season with the Generals, he had three home runs, 13 RBI’s, 16 runs, and .379 on-base percentage. In 2021 with Northwestern Ohio, Diel continued his impressive bat with two home-runs, 28 RBIs, and a .307 batting average.
Anthony Lenza, OF, Benedictine University / Orland Hills, Ill. / Andrew HS
Lenza brings a great contact bat, speed on the bases, and consistent glove to the Vikings for his first year. He ended his 2021 season with a .377 batting average, 26 hits and 25 runs scored, 1.000 stolen base percentage going 9 for 9, and only committed one error on 40 chances.
Caleb Evans, OF, Jackson State / Hawthorn Woods, Ill. / Lake Zurich HS
The JSU product joins the Vikings for his first year with the MCL. During his 2021 season, Evans had an impressive bat recording a four game hit streak, drawing three walks, and a batting average of .357.
Shawn Rigsby, OF/3B, St. Ambrose University / Myrtle Creek, Ore. / South Umpqua HS
The Oregon native will be getting his first taste of the MCL after playing two years in the South Florida Collegiate Baseball League. In his two years with the league he totaled one home run, 34 RBIs, 37 walks, 19 stolen bases and .289 batting average.
Anthony Termini, INF, Waubonsee CC / McHenry, Ill. / McHenry East HS
Termini brings a key versatility to the Vikings in his first year. He brings a big righty bat and was a recent commit to play baseball at Waubonsee CC. The 2020 grad looks to come in and help the Vikings.
Dylan Engel, MIF, Illinois Wesleyan University / Chicago, Ill. / Marian Catholic HS
The 2020 grad looks to gain key experience in his first year in the MCL. Engel recorded a 7.45 in the 60-yard dash, according to Prep Baseball Report. He has recently competed at the Future Stars Great Lakes Regional Combine.
Cooper Huckabone, 1B/3B, St. Ambrose University / Mount Pleasant, Iowa / Mount Pleasant HS
A recent transfer from Indian Hills CC, Huckabone in his 2020 season hit .422 in 15 games with 19 hits, two home runs, 12 RBIs, and a .559 on-base percentage. He comes in at a staggering 6-6, 246 pounds and looks to bring a powerful righty bat to the Vikings.
Jaden Lee, OF/2B, Undecided / Monee, Ill. / Crete-Monee HS
The Vikings bring in another speed threat in the name of Jaden Lee. According to Baseball Factory, Lee recorded a 6.93 on his 60-yard dash. He has a level through contact swing, line drive approach, that flashes powers at times according to Prep Baseball Report.
