Hammond, Ind. – May. 21, 2022 – A new era of Vikings baseball is here.
The Southland Vikings have announced Brian Nowakowski as the Northern League team’s new manager. Nowakowski replaces Rocco Mossuto, who remains involved in the organization and has taken on the role of general manager.
“I am extremely excited to be the next coach of the Vikings and am thankful for the opportunity that Don Popravak and Rocco Mossuto gave me,” said Nowakowski. “I look to bring a fun and exciting atmosphere to the Vikings, plus win some games in the process.”
Nowakowski also serves as the head baseball coach for Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Ind., and has held that position since the fall of 2012, and plans on using his experience to better his players.
“I want to use my experience in coaching to answer any questions they have and to help them grow as a baseball player,” Nowakowski said. “My expectations for the summer are to ensure our players get the proper reps they need to prepare themselves for their fall seasons.”
While at CCSJ, Nowakowski has been big on creating a family-like atmosphere amongst his teams. That skill will come in handy as he leads the Vikings, a summer collegiate league team featuring players from different schools around the Midwest.
“I want my guys to have fun together, hurt together, win together and lose together,” Nowakowski said. “I want to help them not just grow on the field but also grow off the field and prepare them for whatever comes next.”
Fans will be able to catch Nowakowski and the rest of the Vikings all summer long at Hammond’s Dowling Park. Their first opportunity will be on Monday, May 23 as they play host to the Lake County Corn Dogs at 5 p.m. to kickstart the 2022 season.
