Crown Point, Ind. – June 7, 2022 – To quote Vikings assistant coach Scott Nowakowski, “There’s not much to say.”
That was the mood of the Southland Vikings (3-6-1) after being on the receiving end of the first no-hitter in Lake County Corn Dogs (8-1) history, in a 13-0 loss in seven innings.
The Vikings pitching staff struggled as a whole on Tuesday night, issuing 16 free passes to Corn Dog hitters, 12 of them coming in the first two innings of play. Those free passes allowed Lake County to send 10 hitters to the plate in the first and 12 hitters in the second and would build an insurmountable 10-run lead after two.
Lake County would proceed to add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a 13-0 game, a lead they would take into the top of the seventh and close out not just the no-hit bid, but the game due to Northern League run rules.
The Vikings return to play on Wednesday night when they’ll play host to the Lake County Corn Dogs for their third consecutive meeting. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be aired on Facebook Live.
