Hammond, Ind. – June 30, 2022 – In what was an overwhelmingly positive month for the Southland Vikings, it did not end on a high note.
As the Southland Vikings (14-11-1) fell to the Lake County Corn Dogs (20-7) by a final score of 24-0. The Vikings were on the receiving end of a game in which their opponents knocked in 24 runs on 23 hits, leading to Southland's largest margin of defeat.
“The Southland Vikings put on their uniforms and attended a baseball game today,” Rocco Mossuto, the team’s general manager said.
That’s how the coaching staff and players felt, watching Lake County hit five home runs as a team while averaging just above three hits per inning.
Then on the offensive side of the baseball, it was a struggle to get anything going.
The Vikings collected just three hits and stranded the five base runners that reached base. The team had lots of hard contact just right at Corn Dog defenders, backed by the team’s seven flyouts in Thursday’s contest.
The Vikings will have an opportunity to move on from their loss on Friday when they travel to the KROC Center to take on the Chicago American Giants. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be aired on Facebook Live and the Vikings Radio Network.
