For the second consecutive week, the Southland Vikings have a member of the franchise winning an award. As Nick Fies was named Northern League Player (Hitter) of the Week for his offensive performance for the week of July 11th through July 17th.

Fies’ week saw him bat for an average of .571 (8-for-14) with seven RBIs throughout four games played. Fies had two monster performances on July 11th and July 13th. On the 11th, Fies went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two home runs against the Crestwood Panthers. On the 13th in a road doubleheader against the Joliet Generals, Fies went a combined 4-for-6 with a go-ahead RBI double in game two of the twin billing.

Fies joins Chris Baker (NW Indiana Oilmen) as the only player to win this honor with a unanimous decision. He also joins Chris McDevitt as the only Viking to win the award this season.
