Vikings and Oilmen Battle in Offensive Showcase

By: Griffin Winiecki

It was a beautiful day for some baseball on Wednesday, and we had a absolute game between the Vikings and Oilmen at Oil City. The Vikings had Andrew Early go out there for the start after his last appearance which resulted in a No Decision against the Indiana Panthers.

It was a 2-0 ballgame Oilmen through 5 innings due to an error from the Vikings early in the 1st. Then it wasn't until the Vikings flipped the game on its head in the top of the 6th, scoring five runs and making the lead for the Vikings 5-2. Right after the Vikings were up to bat, the Oilmen in the bottom of the 6th tied it up from a single and a sac fly.

The Vikings took the lead right back in the top of the7th from a two RBI single from Jacob Gunn and a RBI groundout for Owen Bendis making it 8-5 Vikings. Then right as the bottom of the 7th hit the Oilmen, jumped out to a lead after 4 hits making it a 12-8 ballgame. The Vikings didn't strike back till the top of the 9th when they scored 2 but it wasn't enough as the Oilmen finished it off making a 12-10 Oilmen ballgame at the final.

The bats were hot for both teams today as both teams put up a ton of runs today, but it was the Oilmen that had more at the end of it. The Vikings plate discipline was great today as they had 6 hits and 10 walks which contributed greatly to them getting 10 runs. Coach Jake Hunt on talking about the plate discipline today and for the future, "The guys are getting more comfortable up there and picking each other up".

With the Vikings performing better at the plate lately they head to Elkhart where they will take on the Miracle Friday in a good Northern League matchup.
