Vikings give up 8 and lose to Generals

By: Griffin Winiecki

Today at Dowling Park, the Vikings saw the Generals to try and gain an edge in a 1-1 series record. Both games beforehand were each blowouts by the winning team and it was time for the Vikings to repeat Monday's affairs and try and get a win here today.

The Vikings started Peyton Fausto today at pitcher against the Generals. The Generals gave the starting nod to Colin McCarty. It was late in the top of the 1st where the Generals took a 1-0 lead after a walk to Dylan Coty who stole around the bags and scored on a groundout. Then later in the 3rd inning, Fausto gave up a lining triple to Ayden Elixson to make the lead 2-0 in the top of the third.

Fausto was on a nice grove through the first three innings but things started falling apart in the top of hte 4th. The Generals scored 5 runs on three hits, a fielder's choice, and an error making the lead 7-0 Generals. McCarty who had been pitching for the Generals was light's out in 4 innings of work striking out 7. Fausto was having a nice night until that 4th inning. Fausto's final statline is 4 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 3 K's.

It was Mason Leckrone who later gave up one run making it an 8-0 Generals ballgame. The Vikings would later score on a RBI by Charles Bergin.

This was a tough game for the Vikings but on the positive side we saw some great pitching by Mason Leckrone, the Vikings amassed 7 walks and ended up stealing 5 bags which marks 25 total stolen bases on the year which is some of the best in the league currently. The Vikings will visit the Miracle again in Elkhart on Friday where Andrew Early is expected to make the start.
