Vikings and Miracle Come Down to the Wire

By: Griffin Winiecki

On Thursday evening, the short handed Vikings traveled to Elkhart to take on the very tough Miracle squad. The Vikings were short on players and coach Jake Hunt had to put himself into the lineup. "I had fun out there, had nothing to worry about or lose." said Coach Hunt who went 1-4 today with a double. When I spoke with Coach Hunt he told me that the last time he played was back in May 2021.

The Vikings with Coach Hunt DHing the game started Anthony Mangano on the mound. In the first inning, the Vikings started it off hot drawing walks and getting on base and piling on 5 runs in the first inning. Then later in the first, Anthony Mangano gave up a homerun to Brock Lesher making the score 5-1 after the first.

No action until the 3rd inning when the Vikings added on a run from a Miracle error making the score 6-1. Later in the 4th, Brock Lesher hit himself another homerun to chip away at the score 6-2 Vikings. There wasn't much action going on until the 6th when it was the Miracle still finding ways to come back and ultimately making it a 1 score game heading into the bottom of the 9th 6-5 Vikings. It was Diaz Sounderson and Mason Meyer paving the way for the Miracle and coming back and taking a win at home against the Miracle.

The short-handed Vikings played great today despite struggling to hold the lead throughout the game. Maintaining a lead has given the Vikings some trouble so far this year, as it was another come from behind win by the opponent.

Anthony Mangano pitched 6 IP 5 H 4 ER 5 K and did a very good job at controling the game in tough situations where he found himself in bags loaded and runners in scoring position.

The Vikings look to add a win to the column when they visit the Generals in Griffith on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
