Vikings Beat Oilmen 8-7

By: Griffin Winiecki

The Vikings came to play today against the Oilmen on a very hot Monday evening at Dowling Park. After what was a bad loss against them last time, it was Mason Leckrone who was handed the start for the Vikings. Leckrone had a tough assignment against a still hot Oilmen team that amassed 30 runs in their last two games.

The runs started in the second inning when it was the Oilmen who reached home twice thanks to a sac fly and a couple of walks. The scoring wouldn't stop for the Oilmen as they then put two more on the board at the end of the 4th inning making it a 4-0 ballgame. The Vikings answered in the bottom of the 4th when it was Dre Allred recording an RBI single and the game being 4-1 Oilmen.

In the top of the 5th the Oilmen gained another run thanks to a groundout RBI. The Vikings wouldn't answer back till the bottom of the 6th when an error led to another Vikings run. It was a 6-2 ballgame after the top of the 8th in favor of the Oilmen and then it was the bottom of the 8th that changed the course of the game. The Vikings would score 6 runs thanks to a bunch of hits and walks. Then it was newcomer Josh Vis who came into the game at the 7th and finished it off in the 9th.

The Vikings were fantastic today at the plate getting 10 hits and 9 walks. "They were on today and it was good to finally get another win" said Coach Hunt asked about his teams hitting. The Vikings turned it up a notch and are looking to keep the volume up as they go against the Panthers in Highland Tuesday at 7:00 PM
