Vikings Beat Miracle in Close Game

By: Griffin Winiecki

It was a very nice Wednesday out in Dowling Park where the short handed Vikings were taking on the Miracle. In their last game the Miracle won 3-2. The Vikings, who were fired up from yesterday's short game had a lot of fight in them today.

The game started hot for the Vikings where in the first two innings they scored 5 runs and led 5-0 at the end of it. Anthony Mangano got the starting nod and started off hot for the Vikings until the 3rd and 4th when he gave up 3 total runs but the Vikings answered back with one of their own and led the Miracle 6-3 entering the 5th.

At the start of the 5th, things for the Miracle started to turn around as they scored two runs off of some hits and walks and did it again in the 6th. At the end of the 6th inning the game was tied up at 6. The Vikings, knowing their struggles to maintain a lead lately destroyed the baseball in the bottom of the 7th thanks to hits by Zach Norwine.

It was the start of the 8th and the Vikings were up 10-6 and Anthony Mangano had pitched all that he could and it was up to the position players for the Vikings to close out the game. It was Zach Norwine who was handed the ball in the 8th inning and he went 3 up 3 down with a strikeout too.

At the start of the 9th, Norwine was back out there but struggling. After walking a few and even walking in a run, the Vikings turned over to the other Mangano, Nick. Nick had pitched before against the Miracle but ended the game with a loss after giving up the walkoff hit. Nick Mangano with bases loaded and two outs needed to win the game, Mangano struck out 1 batter and the other batter flew out for the Vikings to secure a win.

The Vikings take the trip to Elkhart tomorrow to try and sweep them in this small 2 game series.
