Oilmen hand Vikings 20th loss

By: Griffin Winiecki

On what was a hot day espcially on that burning astro truf in Dowling Park the Vikings were back after a big comeback win against the Generals in Griffith and were ready to take on the Oilmen in a matchup they won last Monday when these two teams played. Mason Leckrone was handed the reins to start for the Vikings today.

To get things started off for themselves, the Oilmen put up 4 runs in the first two innings leading 4-0. After a rough second inning, Leckrone started to find his footing getting a couple strikeouts and landing some outs. It was the top of the 4th when a team struck on the score boards and it was again the Oilmen gaining another run and leading 5-0.

It was the bottom of the 4th when things for the Vikings got started when it was an Owen Bendis double that would score Jacob Gunn and a sac fly by Miles Cvelbar that would score Bendis by the end of the 4th making it a 5-2 Oilmen ballgame. The top of the 5th hit and thats where the Oilmen put on a couple more runs to keep their lead at 5 runs. The Vikings would answer back with a two run bottom 5th thanks to Nick Mangano homerun. It is the second homerun of the Vikings season and Nick's first on the year and also cut the lead to 7-4.

The score would remain the same until the bottom of the 7th where it was the Vikings, who put up another run on the board thanks to some heads up base running by Mangano to cut the lead to 7-5. Things would then start to look bleak for the Vikings as the Oilmen put up 3 in the 8th and 9th and eventually beating the Vikings by a score of 10-5.

The Vikings had a tough time getting on base only drawing 3 total walks and 6 hits. The Vikings look to get back in the win column when they take on the Miracle Wednesday at Dowling Park.
