Panthers beat Vikings at neutral site game

By: Griffin Winiecki

It was a neutral site game in Hammond but no, it wasn't a game in Dowling Park. It was a game at Riverside Park just about 8 minutes from it. The Vikings and Panthers were squaring off against each other with some new playoff implications. The Elkhart Miracle are no longer a team due to some undisclosed reasons. So it was a 3 team race for 2nd place between the Generals, Panthers, and Vikings.

It was Andrew Early for the Vikings who is getting the starting nod against his brother Colin's team. The start of the 1st inning was fruitful for the Panthers as they teed off for 4 runs, leading 4-0. The Vikings were unable to score until the 3rd inning from a Micheal Lustina double, cutting the lead from 4 to 3. The game was a pitcher duel throughout until the 6th, when the Panthers added 2 runs to lead 6-1.

The Vikings didn't have an answer until the bottom of the 7th when it was a Nick Mangano 2 run homerun and an RBI by Owen Bendis to cut the lead from 6-4. The Panthers would then score a run in the top of the 9th and would eventually end the game at 7-4 in favor of the Panthers.

The Vikings were unable to get runners across homeplate on numerous occasions in a good game with some of the pitchers and a nice homerun by Nick Mangano.

The Vikings are back at it Monday against the Panthers in Dowling Park at 5.
