Vikings close out season with a win

By: Griffin Winiecki

In what was the final game of the season the Vikings were looking to finish off the season with a win and their heads up going into their college seasons. It was game 3 of a 3 game series between the Oilmen and Vikings and it was all tied up at 1 heading into Saturday night. Trusted with the starting reins, the Vikings chose Kaden Kumzi to finish out the season finale.

The Vikings as usual struck first with some walks and an error that would lead to an early 2-0 Vikings lead. It wasn't until the bottom of the 3rd until the Oilmen had gotten their first couple runs being able to tie it up at 2 heading into the 4th. The Vikings wouldn't answer back until Jacob Gunn scored in the middle of a Damon Brena rundown and the run would be counted due to the Northern League rulings. With a 1 run lead, Kaden Kumzi who had been pitching a great game had over 98 pitches in 5 innings and would eventually give up 2 before being taken out in the bottom of the 6th.

The new pitcher who came in for Kumzi was Anthony Mangano. Mangano able to hold onto the deficit for the Vikings pitched well in the 6th inning. By the top of the 7th inning, the Vikings took off and never looked back. Scoring 7 runs in the top of the 7th thanks to a lot of walks and some key hitting by Isaiah Steinhilber the Vikings were holding a 10-4 lead after the top of the 7th.

Mangano did a great job finishing up the game for the Vikings getting 4 K's in 4 innings and securing the win for the Vikings against the Oilmen 10-6.

In what was a very slow start to the season for the Vikings it is clear that they have improved greatly as the year continued and it was really nice to see a lot of player development from start to finish.

The Vikings end the season 10-22, a record that honestly doesn't show how good this team can really be. Thank you to all those who have supported the Vikings this season it was a good year and a great summer.
